Porn Statistics

According to the Internet Filter Review, the average age a child in the United States is exposed to pornography is 11 years old.  Studies in Europe and Canada show similar data – teenagers and pre-teens with Internet access are overwhelmingly being sucked into hardcore online pornography (remember that the legal age to view pornography is 18).  And according to four different surveys spanning 2005-2012, teenagers around the world report using porn to help them understand about real-life sex.

Pornography is illegal to children under 18, but we have taken no precautions as a society to prevent children from accessing internet porn – the studies show, in fact, that it is nearly impossible for children to avoid internet porn.  This would be like telling children they can’t drink until they’re 21 but having no law requiring I.D.’s at the liquor store.

The organization Stop Porn Culture says that “88.2% of top rated porn scenes contain aggressive acts. Only 9.9% of the top selling scenes analyzed contained behaviors such as kissing, laughing, caressing, or verbal compliments.  Open-hand slapping occurs in 41.1% of scenes.”
